Consider this example of a well structured book: In Toni Morrison’s Pulitzer-winning novel Beloved (1987), the first chapter begins ‘124 was spiteful.’
This brief opening sentence is echoed in the opening of the book’s middle section: ‘124 was loud’.
Usually teams are constructed to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing and skills transfer. One particular, and unusual, use for this structure is where you wish to minimise skills transfer. This has been considered valuable in a few cases where there is a significant shortage of a particular skill in the marketplace. Why? Because if you transfer skills to the line staff they all resign to double their salary as consultants - see the case study below.
Contemporary dramas increasingly use the fall to increase the relative height of the climax and dramatic impact (melodrama). The protagonist reaches up but falls and succumbs to doubts, fears, and limitations. The negative climax occurs when the protagonist has an epiphany and encounters the greatest fear possible or loses something important, giving the protagonist the courage to take on another obstacle. This confrontation becomes the classic climax.
